Abstract

953,017. Pistons. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 14, 1961 [Nov. 15, 1960], No. 32956/61. Heading F2T. A piston and ring assembly comprises a ring 10 having spaced first and second flanges 11 and 12 which diverge radially inwardly and are integrally connected by a web 14 to define cylinder wall engaging surfaces 13, the ring being housed in a ring groove 19 and making line contact at 28 and 31 with the sides of the groove and at 29 with a ridge 21 protruding from the base of the groove. Third and fourth flanges 23 and 24 are integrally connected to the flanges 11 and 12 respectively and also diverge radially inwardly. Oil return slots 16 and 22 are provided in the web 14 and in the piston 18 respectively. In the modification in Fig. 3, the flange 23 is replaced by a flange 32 as shown.
