Abstract

The oil scraper ring fits in a groove at the base of the piston behind the pressure rings and consists of two parts. The scraper part of the ring, which slides over the cylinder wall, has two ribs (34a, 34b) which are joined by a web (24) in which are located oil holes (40). The faces (28a, 28b) fit in the slots of the piston. The outer ring is backed by an inner U-ring which is made up of segments (41a, 41b), kept in position by ribs (26). The top and bottom segments are staggered. The faces of the outer ring are coated with chrome or other hard surface.
