Abstract

1,218,708. Piston. SOC. ANON. D.B.A. 6 Aug., 1969 [28 Aug., 1968], No. 39358/69. Heading F2T. Packing for a piston 14 comprises a lip sealing ring 24 which is located adjacent a radially outwardly extending flange 28 on the piston by a resilient split anti-extrusion ring 30 having two radially inwardly extending flanges 32, 34, one, 32, of which engages the flange 28 and the other, 34, engages a groove 36 in the outer peripheral surface of the ring 24. The ring 30 may be of thermosetting synthetic resin and has a radial thickness substantially equal to the clearance between the flange 28 and the cylinder bore 12 so that it acts as a bearing ring for the piston.
