Abstract
553,662. Cores for A.C. dynamo-electric matchines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and POHL, R. Aug. 27, 1941, No. 11804/42. Divided out of 551,691. [Class 35] The circumference of the secondary member of a synchronous motor or clutch having salient poles (the stator 1 in the Figure) is provided with a thin sheet of magnetic material 6 extending over the salient pole faces and the intervening gaps. The material is preferably a steel alloy and has a high specific resistance and a high permeability. Its small thickness is such as to allow the penetration of induced current at starting thereby to endow the motor or clutch with the starting characteristics of an induction motor while not materially increasing magnetic leakage at synchronous speed. Holes may be provided in the bridges to reduce magnetic leakage. The winding on the primary member may be such as to enable a change of pole number to increase starting torque.
