Abstract

553,391. Telephone instruments. DENT, R. H., and WOLFF, J. Feb. 20, 1942. Nos. 2267/42 and 2883/43. [Class 40 (iv)] A magnet system for an acoustic receiver comprises two permanent magnets 9, 10 arranged between the ends of soft-iron plates 1, 2, a pole-piece 6 secured to one plate and extending with clearance into an opening 7 in the other, and a coil 11 located between the plates 1 and 2 and the magnets and surrounding the pole-piece. One magnet may be of cobalt and the other of alnico steel. The diaphragm 18 may be placed over a damping-plate 16 having a central opening 17 to receive a flanged portion 8 of the plate 1. Acoustic leakage from the space between the diaphragm and the plate is provided by a hole 21 in the latter, which is covered by a layer of silk between wire gauze layers.
