Abstract

552,126. Annealing tubes. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12048. Convention date, March 21. [Class 72] [Also in Group XXII and XI] A tube may be annealed by heating to over 1400‹F by passing electric currents through it by means of metal boxes 65 ... 68 separated by insulating sleeves 62, 63 and containing copper pellets 72 and graphite, non-oxidizing or inert gas being admitted to the boxes and sleeves by pipes 80 ... 83 and air or a reducing gas to the inside of the tube, according as a blued or bright interior is desired, by a pipe 140. The tube is at once cooled in inert gas by a water-jacketed sleeve.
