Abstract
559,429. Uniting metal to ceramics by heat. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Aug. 11, 1942, No. 11236. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1941. [Class 36] Metals are united to ceramics by a soft iron ring which has a wall thickness of a few tenths of a millimetre and is sealed to the ceramic body by a glass flux and to the metal body by welding. The ring may be made of electrolytic iron and may be enamelled at the point where the glass flux is to be applied. The ring may be cylindrical or conical or it may be given a spring effect by making it in cross-section the shape of a L, V, U, S, N or W, or by making it pocket- or wave-shaped. The iron can be softened by annealing in an atmosphere of hydrogen at a temperature in the vicinity of its melting point.
