Abstract

284,808. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Smithells, C. J. Nov. 25, 1926. Argon; hydrogen.-Water, oxygen and other oxidizing impuritides are removed from gasss such as hydrogen, or rare gases such as argon alone or mixeid with hydrogen, by passing the gas over metallic chromium heated preferably to between 700-850‹ C. The gas may first be partly purified, for example by passage over red hot copper and phosphorus pentoxide. The prior use of hot tungsten and sodium in purifying gases is mentioned. Specification 166,541 is referred to.
