Abstract
550,041. Finishing fabrics. YORKSHIRE DYEING & PROOFING CO., Ltd., CROSSLEY, W., and MASON, F. E. June 17, 1941, No. 17775/40. [Class 42 (i)] Relates to a process for shrinking textile fabrics upon finishing machines such as the Palmer type wherein the fabric A, before passing around a heated drying cylinder B of large diameter against the surface of which it is pressed by a thick endless travelling blanket C, passes with the blanket over a roller or bowl D, the outer surface of the blanket first expanding, from position 1 to position 3, and thereafter contracting, from position 3 to position 2. The adherence of the fabric to the blanket is assisted and shrinking of the fabric ensured by air or steam blown from a hood E so as to impinge upon the fabric as it passes from position 3 to position 2. The inner face e of the hood E may be open as shown. or may be perforated. The hood E may be replaced by one or more pipes with nozzles to direct the air or steam on to the surface of the fabric. The air may be heated and/or humidified before being blown on to the fabric. To increase the shrinkage one or more additional rollers may be arranged in front of the roller D.
