Abstract

An apparatus for steaming tubular knit textiles in flat, two-layer form, has a spreader (not shown) to which the textile is supplied at 120% or more of its removal speed to obtain a 15% increase in circumference and to be in a tension-free condition when steamed using steamer boxes 34 and 35 for at least 1.5 secs. An air-nozzle 36 prevents the steam from travelling upstream of the textile which is wound up on a roll 42. Calendar rolls 38, 39 may be adjusted to vary the pressure or the textile and are both positively driven at all times to avoid marking the textile.
