Abstract
1,111,794. Shrinking fabrics. CLUETT, PEABODY & CO., Inc. 18 Aug., 1965 [30 Oct., 1964], No. 35419/65. Heading D1S. Woven textile fabrics are treated by simultaneously, but separately, feeding two fabric webs 10, 12 in an endwise direction, conditioning the moving webs by adding moisture thereto to render the fibres thereof pliant, superimposing the two webs to form a single continuous two-ply sheet, subjecting the sheet to compressive shrinking, separating the webs 10, 12 and separately drying these webs. The webs 10, 12 are supplied in folded-form in carts 11, 13, respectively, and pass over scrimp bars 16, 16' and tensioning and conveying rolls to moisteners 25, 25' in a chamber 25a in which they are sprayed by nozzles 25 b, 25c. The moisture is allowed time to take full effect by passing the webs 10, 12 over a further series of conveying and tensioning rolls. The webs 10, 12 pass over heating drums 37, 37', are fed to clip tenters 40, 40' where they are placed in cross-wise tension and brought to the same width, and are then superimposed to form a two ply sheet which is fed into the nip between a travelling rubber belt 42 and a heated drum 46 of a compressive shrinker 41. The shrunken webs 10. 12 are separated and are constrained by felt bands 52, 52' to pass around dryer drums 50, 50' .and are folded into carts 56, 56' by members 55, 55' The bands 52, 52' are dried by drums 57, 57' The invention is particularly applicable to raised surface woven fabrics, as by the presence of recurring floats of either warp or weft yarns. or by a pile, which are superimposed with the raised surfaces facing each other.
