Mangles with a ntral steam heated cylinder and pressure ollers placed around the cylinder with means for varying the pressure of the said rollers, are of high efiiciency. Thecpressure rollers however are usually covered withtextile material blankets and-as a result'there occurs wet steam in the covering in the course of a short time which is a hindrance and also renders it necessary to re- 10 place the roller coverings frequently, with interruptions to the'working of the apparatus'and, of course, increased working CQSt S.
The present invention has for ObJGCt a mangle having pressure rollers arranged as above set forth, that is with means for varying the pressure, in which apparatus the inconvenient and annoying wet steam may be removed as formed and according to the invention each pressure roller interior is put into communication with a suction device which will exert a suction effect on the interior of the roller whilst still allowing of variation of the pressure, that is, variation in the positionof a pressure roller relative to 125 the central cylinder, as desired.
7 The invention in a very convenient method of carrying it into effect will now be fully de-- scribed with reference tothe annexed drawings wherein Figure 1 is an end elevation of so a mangle with five pressure rollers and-Figure 2 is a fragmentary view taken at right angles to Figure 1 and showing to an enlarged scale the ends of a pressure roller and the end of the central cylinder with the means for allowing of variation of roller pressure whilst still maintaining the said roller in tight contact with a suction device. It will be understood that variations of the mechanical details may be introduced so long as the spirit of the invention, viz: arrangement of a suction device which will cause a partial vacuum in each textile material covered pressure roller whilst still permitting r the said roller'to have variable pressure applied between it and the central cylinder, is
preserved.
I claim 1. In a mangle, a central cylinder, 21 plurality of textile blanketed pressure rollers placed around the cylinder on brackets, movable bearin s for the said rollers in the said 0 brackets, with means for applying variable pressure to the said roller bearings, an ex haust casing in communication with the interiors of the pressure rollers, and air-tight packings between the bearings and the exhaust casing, and preservingtheir'air tightness in all positions of the movable'bearings.
