Abstract

1,038,412. Finishing and treating fabric. SAMCOE HOLDING CORPORATION. Feb. 11, 1964 [March 7, 1963], No. 5684/64. Headings D1L and D1S. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for treating tubular knitted fabric, the fabric is conveyed successively through a preheating zone 10, a drying zone 11, and a post-heating zone 12 on a spreader 13 which opens up the tube forming an enlarged, internal passage therein for the passage of heated air streams from a blower 42. The streams are directed radially into the interior of the tube in the drying zone for a generally axial flow in both directions into the portions of the tube lying in the preheating and postheating zones 10, 12. Pairs of variable speed nip rollers 60, 61 are mounted at each end of the treating zone to maintain the tube substantially closed, while the tube within the zones is externally unconfined to allow the tube to balloon out as at 14,15 under the influence of pressure therein. The air flows from the ends of the zones 10, 12 for recirculation over heaters 48, 49 to the blower 42 and a portion is exhausted through a fan 38 in a duct 34 after passage through ducting 35, 36. The spreader 13, Fig. 4 (not shown), extends throughout the length of the apparatus and flat end portions project a short distance past the rollers 60, 61. Rollers (not shown) on the spreader engage driven edge rolls 58, 59 located outside the apparatus.
