June 12, 1941, No. 7443..[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] Passages a, f in the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine convey respectively (1) lubricant for the big-end connecting rod bearing b<SP>1</SP>, which may be conveyed through a passage i<SP>1</SP> in the connecting rod to the small - end bearing and (2) cooling fluid for the piston passing round the passage i<SP>1</SP> and small-end bearing to the piston which may contain a telescopic member k, k' giving a forced circulation of fluid. The cooling - fluid flows through a duct p to the outside of the main bearing shell and so to the duct f, a spring- pressed sealing ring m being provided. The fluid streams may be conveyed through pipes carried by the connecting- rod, in place of passages therein, and may be supplied by separate pumps or by a single pump with distributing means.
