Abstract

380,183. Lubricating internal-combustion engines. PETERS, J. A., 30, Caldecote Street, Newport Pagnell, Bucking- hamshire. July 1, 1931, No. 18966. [Class 12 (iii).] In a multicylinder twostroke internalcombustion engine wherein each cylinder is of two diameters forming pumping and working chambers 4, 10 respectively, a pump 1 supplies oil through a passage 5, under the control of a valve 6, to a fan 7 in the induction system, where it is thoroughly mixed with the combustible mixture and conveyed by the latter into the pumping chambers 4 so as to lubricate the working parts of the pistons 9. The pump also supplies oil through the hollow crankshaft 2 to the big-end bearings, whence it is thrown to lubricate the small-end bearings and the pumping portions of the pistons. In a fuel-injection engine, the oil is conveyed into the pumping chambers by the air.
