Abstract

5789. Twombly, W. I. Oct. 24, 1911. Centrifugal-action lubricators.-Relates to the lubrication of the rotary engine for aeronautics &c. described in Specification 23,445/11, [Class 7(ii), Internal - combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of], consisting of a number of cylinders revolving about a fixed crank-shaft. Oil from the tank flows by gravity through a pipe 50 into a duct in the crank-shaft communicating with a groove 51 in the cap 42 of the revolving casing 1 carrying the cylinders 5. The oil passes by a pipe 52 to an annular reservoir 41, from which, when the engine is working, it is forced centrifugally past spring-pressed ball valves 47 in pipes 45 and through needle regulating-valves 49 to orifices in the cylinder walls to lnbricate the pistons 6. A passage 53 in the crank-shaft conveys oil to a passage 54 in the crank-pin, from which ducts 56, 57, 58, 59 lead to the bearings, gudgeon-pins 14<1> and to the cam 18 that operates the fuel-inlet valve 15. The oil passing through the pins 14<1> enters the hollow connecting-rods 8 to lubricate the rods 19, the gudgeon-pins 10, and valve stems 24.
