Abstract
546,747. Atomizers. TRIER, V. A., and ANDRE (COMPONENTS), Ltd. Jan. 27, 1941, No. 1070. [Class 69 (iii)] An atomizer is so constructed that it will deliver either a spray or an aerosol. Liquid in the vessel 1 is forced by air pressure which may be supplied by a pump 3, up a tube 14 to an atomizing nozzle supplied with compressed air through a tube 13 through which the tube 14 passes. The nozzle 12 is situated in a chamber 2 mounted on the vessel 1 and provided with an opening 15 through which a spray is delivered. The crown of the chamber 2 is frustoconical and has an exit opening for an aerosol and is provided with a depending cylindrical skirt 18 provided with an opening 19 which registers with the opening 15 when a spray is to be delivered. If an aerosol is required the opening 15 is closed by rotating the crown 17 so that the spray impinges against the skirt 18 to remove larger particles of liquid and also cause further atomization. A perforated baffle 20 removes any remaining large particles of liquid and the aerosol escapes by the opening 16. Liquid removed from the spray accumulates in the bottom of the chamber 2 and is returned to the vessel 1 by a valve 22 operated by an external button 24.
