Abstract
542,277. Valve circuits. DALGLEISH, J. W., POOLE, S. R., and PYE, Ltd. Feb. 7, 1940, No. 2374. [Class 40 (v)] In a transmitter comprising a master oscillator and grid-modulated power amplifier, the grid bias voltage for the power amplifier is derived by rectification of the H.F. voltage generated by the oscillator, whereby the H.F. drive voltage and the bias voltage applied to the power amplifier bear a fixed relationship to each other. High frequency voltage from the anode 4 of the master oscillator is fed to the grid 3 of the power amplifier. High frequency current is fed through condenser 5 and resistance 10 to a diode anode 6 which co-operates with the cathode of the oscillator. The rectified voltage developed across resistance 7 is fed via filter 8, 9 as a bias to grid 3, the microphone M being coupled in this lead by transformer 11. A variable condenser 12 enables the relationship of the H.F. voltage and grid bias to be adjusted. A suitable grid bias battery is connected between resistor 7 and earth which acts as a delay voltage for the diode 6 and ensures that the power amplifier will not be operated without bias in the event of failure of the H.F. voltage.
