Abstract

516,357. Valve generating circuits. TELEFUNKEN GES. FœR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. June 21, 1938, No. 18376. Convention date June, 21, 1937. [Class 40(v)] In a back-coupled oscillator in which the rate of flow through a grid-controlled electron discharge valve is periodically changed by negatively charging a condenser in the grid circuit through a rectifier and an inductance reactively coupled with the valve anode, a current-limiting impedance 17 is arranged in series with the control grid for restricting the potential to which the grid can be raised. The condenser 11 is charged slowly from battery 16 through impedance 15, and anode current flows at a slowly-increasing rate. When a synchronising pulse is received on an additional grid of valve 10, or when the voltage across the condenser exceeds that across coil 12, the condenser 11 and the magnetic energy of coil 14 discharge rapidly through rectifier 13, so that condenser 11 is charged in the opposite sense and the cycle then repeats. Normally grid current flows when the grid potential exceeds the cathode potential, and this varies the rate of charge of condenser 11. To prevent this a current-limiting impedance 17 is provided which maintains the grid potential practically constant after grid current starts and the anode current remains steady. Saw-tooth potentials are produced across condenser 11, whilst saw-tooth current flows in coil 12.
