Abstract

649,320. Supply systems for discharge lamps. TURNER ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTS, Ltd., E. March 3, 1949, No. 9534/50. Divided out of and addition to 649,274. [Class 38 (iv)] Pulses of short duration are applied to a discharge lamp by the discharge of two series connected electrolytic condensers charged at a higher voltage through a path containing resistance connected in the condenser circuit by a relay when the voltage across the condensers approaches the charging voltage. As shown, the network of rectifiers 3-6 and condensers 7, 8 gives an output to the condensers 9, 10 of the order of 1280 volts with an input of 230 volts at terminals 1, 2 as described in the parent Specification and the relay coil 16 causes the resistance 11 to be introduced into the circuit to prevent the voltage across the condensers rising appreciably over 1000 volts.
