Abstract

588,872. Condenser arrangements. SUBMARINE SIGNAL CO. (LONDON). Ltd., and BIRD, W. G. March 8. 1045, No. 5803. [Class 38 (iv)] In a voltage doubler circuit, two condensers 11, 12 are charged alternately from a D.C. source V and are so connected in series that the voltages across them add, and the load 13 shunted by a condenser 15 is connected between one side of the D.C. source and a point which is brought periodically to the full doubled voltage through a rectifier 16 which prevents current from flowing from condenser 15 to that point. The condensers 11, 12 are charged by a double vibratory interrupter which first connects the voltage source to contacts 4, 6, therefore charging condenser 11, and then to contacts 5, 7, thus charging condenser 12. In the latter position the sum of the voltages across condensers 11, 12 is applied to condenser 15 and therefore across the load, but in the former position the applied voltage E would be the voltage across 11 only, but that rectifier 16 prevents a return flow of charge from condenser 15. The supply voltage E as shown in Fig. 4A is fairly level, consisting of steady periods CD while contacts 5, 7 are closed and periods of slow decrease DABC, while the contacts are open and contacts 4, 6 are made, when condenser 15 is discharging to the load.
