Abstract

566,215. Valve generating circuits. CALVERT, R., GOURIET, G. G., and DAVIES, E. June 23, 1943, No. 10160. [Class 40 (v)] A frequency-dividing, counting or time-base circuit comprises an electron discharge device having its anode connected through a condenser to the positive terminal of the source of current, its cathode being connected to the negative terminal. Means are provided for discharging the condenser periodically in response to the fall of the potential of the anode through a predetermined part of the voltage source. The control electrode of the device is normally biassed to cut-off and is associated with means for applying input signals to raise the bias above cut-off so as to charge the condenser. In this way the condenser is charged in steps and discharged after reaching a predetermined voltage. The Figure shows an arrangement in which a condenser C1 is charged through a valve V1 and discharged by the valve V2 which is cross-coupled to the valve V3. By deriving the bias of the valve V3 from a tap of the potentiometer connected across the high tension source which provides the bias for the valve V1, a change in the input amplitude is prevented from increasing the rate of charging the condenser. In addition, the circuit is largely self-compensating for changes in high tension supply.
