Abstract

607,365. Pulse generating circuits. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Jan. 31, 1946, No. 3169. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1945. [Class 40 (vi)] A pulse is generated by the charging of an energy-storage device, a further pulse of the same polarity being generated by the discharge of the device. When line 10 is in its discharged state, thyratron 16 is held non- conducting due to the bias on the control grid. A triggering pulse applied to cathode follower 43 is amplified in valve 46 and fed over transformer 21 to fire thyratron 16, the resulting anode current flowing through the primary of the pulse transformer 27 to charge the line 10, thereby developing a pulse in the secondary winding. The firing pulse is also fed over capacitor 47 to the grid of thyratron 25, but due to the low anode potential and the connection over resistor 30 the grid is held sufficiently negative to prevent it firing. When the charging of line 10 is completed the cathode potential of thyratron 16 rises, extinguishing the valve. The succeeding triggering pulse is effective in firing thyratron 25 since the rise in anode potential due to the charging of the line 10 has reduced the grid bias, the line discharging through the other primary of transformer 27 and the valve to generate a further pulse. The thyratron 16 is not fired due to the highnegative grid bias and low anode potential. In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown), the line 10 is made symmetrical with respect to earth and the H.T. supply to ensure equal amplitude pulses for the charge and discharge of the line. Specification 3167/46, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, is referred to.
