Abstract
583,553. Valve generating circuits. WILLIAMS, F. C. Oct. 2, 1944, No. 18844. [Class 40 (v)] A valve circuit for producing a wave-front at a predetermined instant comprises regenerative means which become effective when a controlling negative wave-form at the grid of the valve becomes equal to a pre-set negative potential applied in the feed-back circuit. Fig. 1 shows a valve V1 which normally passes saturation anode current so that the anode voltage is at the lowest level. A negative sawtooth voltage wave-form is applied to the cathode of diode D1 and an adjustable bias voltage is applied to the anode. After a time interval depending on the setting of bias potentiometer P, the diode begins to conduct and apply the saw-tooth wave-form to the grid of valve V1, so decreasing the cathode current. Regenerative action occurs through pulse transformer PT to cut off the valve abruptly, producing a positive voltage wavefront at the anode and a negative pulse across the inductance in the cathode circuit. When the saw-tooth wave-form rises again to the cut-off level of diode D1, regenerative action occurs in the opposite direction and valves Dl, V1 return to their initial operating states. Alternatively, the primary winding of transformer PT may be connected in the anode or screen grid circuit of a pentode valve and the saw-tooth wave-form may be applied to the suppressor grid.
