Abstract

838,058. Automatic voltage control systems. RACAL ENGINEERING Ltd. Nov. 23, 1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 33583/55. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] A stabilized D.C. power supply is modulated by a switch having a pulse output which is connected via a discriminator circuit to a control electrode of the amplifier valve of the stabilized supply so that only positive-going pulses are applied to drive the electrode positive so that the output of the stabilized supply drops below its stabilized level during the incidence of the applied pulse. Fig. 1 shows a circuit for pulse modulating a conventional D.C. supply comprising tubes VI, V2 and gas tube T so that a stabilized D.C. output voltage is obtained the level of which can be adjusted by potentiometer R1. Modulation is effected by the pulse output from the conventional multivibrator which is applied to a diode discriminator circuit D1, D2 so that when a positive pulse is applied from the multivibrator diode D1 conducts until grid current flows in tube VI. Its anode voltage is thus reduced so that the output voltage from the stabilizer drops correspondingly. When the voltage from the multivibrator goes negative diode D1 is cut off and the output voltage is held at its normal stabilized level. The circuit may be used for pulse modulating the anode of a conventional oscillator the output from the multivibrator being applied to a control electrode of one of the oscillator valves to switch it alternately to its conducting and non- conducting state the required output level being determined by the setting of the potentiometer R1.
