Abstract

874,373. Valve pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 4, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 36047/58. Class 40(6) In a pulse generating circuit of the kind in which a pulse forming network is charged relatively slowly and then rapidly discharged through a load such as R1, an auxiliary discharge circuit, such as V, R2, is provided to discharge part of the energy prior to the generation of a pulse, the time interval between the initiation of the auxiliary discharge and the main pulsegenerating discharge being controlled. As shown, the pulse forming network PFN is charged from waveform 3 at the secondary of transformer T. The charge is retained by diode D as shown in waveform 4. A negative going sawtooth waveform, synchronized with the input waveform is fed to a comparator circuit 2 of the type described in Specification 789,608. When the sawtooth voltage reaches the value at the junction of the potential divider R3, R4, a pulse is generated, firing the gas tube V, and partially discharging the pulse forming network through resistor R2 to provide waveform 5. The hydrogen thyratron S is fired at time t s discharging the network through the load R1. The amplitude of the pulse applied to the load R1 is controlled by adjusting the value of resistors R2, R3 or R4 or by adjusting the phase of the sawtooth voltage.
