Abstract

271,465. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. May 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Thermionic modulating and keying systems.- The modulating device M, e.g. the key or microphone, is arranged to vary the impedance of an auxiliarv valve EH which is connected in series with a resistance R forming part of the grid circuit of a valve TH which forms part of the gridleak circuit of the valve O to be controlled. The valve EH is provided with grid and anode batteries B, S and a grid leak LW so that the charge applied when the key is depressed can leak away. Owing to the rectifying properties of the valves EH, TH the battery S may be replaced by an alternating source which for telephony is of a frequency above audibility. The biasing battery VB and the resistance R are so chosen that the desired current flows in the grid circuit of the valve 0 which may be an oscillator or an amplifier fed from an independent drive. The grid leak path of the valve O preferably includes an inductance L and a resistance W in addition to the anode-cathode discharge path of the valve TH.
