Abstract

Systems modified for using condenser telephones.-Condenser telephones are associated with oscillating thermionic valves in such a way as to produced currents of telephonic frequency, the valve acting as an oscillator, as a modulator, and as a rectifier. High-frequency oscillations produced in an oscillatory circuit 3, 4 by means of a reaction coil 10 are passed to the grid I through the microphone condenser 2. The rectified low-frequency currents are passed through a transformer 6. According to modifications, the microphone is used in place of or in parallel with the condenser 3 ; the microphone is caused to vary the reaction by connecting it between the plate and grid or in series with a reaction coil; a tuned wave trap is connected between the grid and filament and the microphone is used as the tuning condenser or as the grid condenser; a differential condenser microphone is used and the central diaphragm is connected through an oscillatory circuit to the filaments and the outer plates connected to the grids of two valves working on the push-pull system, or the central diaphragm is connected to the grid of -a valve and the outer plates form the condenser of an oscillatory circuit in which the mid-point of the inductance is connected to the filament of the valve; to prevent direct current passing through the low-frequency transformer it is shunted by a battery, a variable resistance, and an inductance in series and by a high-frequency bye-pass condenser.
