Abstract

164,105. Ditcham, W. T. Feb. 28, 1920. Thermionic oscillation generators; thermionic modulating systems and apparatus.-In a system of wireless telephony, two valves A<3>, A' produce continuous oscillations and are coupled as shown through a rectifying-valve C<2> to the circuit D<2> tuned to the difference between the frequencies. The oscillations in one of the valves A', A<4> are modulated by speech in a microphone M as shown, or by other means. The speech may affect both valves A<3>, A' in opposite directions. The beat-frequency oscillations in the circuit D<2> are used to modulate high-frequency oscillations in an aerial circuit produced by the generator K. In an alternative arrangement, the beat frequency oscillations alone excite the aerial which is tuned to the same frequency as the circuit D<2>. According to the Provisional Specification, the valve H<1> is connected to its coupling coil I through a condenser in parallel with a resistance.
