Abstract
540,218. Wireless signalling; valve relays. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., DAVIS, N. E., CLOUGH, N. H., and BOUNDS, L. April 3, 1940, No. 6053. [Class 40 (v)] Relates to keying or switching circuits using gas-filled valves. In order to de-energize the valve, a condenser, charged during the period when the valve is conductive, is so arranged as to reduce the anode potential simultaneously with, or shortly after, the reduction of potential on the grid. When the key S 1 , S 2 is in its "on" position (as shown), the condenser C is connected across the anode resistance R 1 , and the grid of valve V 1 is connected to the positive terminal of the bias battery. When the key is moved to its " off " position, the grid is connected over resistances R 3 , R 4 to negative, and the positively charged side of the condenser C is connected to the cathode, thereby extinguishing the valve. In a modification, Figs. 2 to 6 (not shown), two gas-filled valves are used and the condenser C connected to the anode of each valve, the key in one position making the grid of one valve positive and of the other negative, this condition being reversed in the other position. Keying voltages may be taken across the anode resistances or the valves; the anode resistance may serve as the normal grid resistance of an amplifier, Fig. 3 (not shown), or, when the circuit is used in an early low-voltage low-current stage, the anode resistance may serve as the anode resistance of the amplifier, Fig. 4 (not shown), or the anode of one gas-filled valve may be connected direct to the screen-grid of a multi-grid valve, Fig. 6 (not shown).
