Abstract
479,034. Wireless transmitting systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Western Electric Co., Inc.) July 28, 1936, No. 20873. [Class 40(v)] In an arrangement for switching on and off the carrier in a high power radio transmitter, reversal of grid current due to secondary emission, causing unstable operation, is prevented by shunting the grid circuit resistance with a rectifier. The telegraph signals from source 2 operate relays 10 and 11 which connect the grids of amplifiers 5, 6 normally blocked by bias sources 14, 18, to suitable operating potentials over resistances 13, 17 and associated condensers 22, 23. Secondary emission from the grids of amplifier 6 may cause reversal of grid current in this stage, and resulting positive bias is prevented by shunting the resistance 17 with a rectifier 24 suitably of the mercury vapour type, which effectively short circuits the resistance 17 for reverse current. The rectifier also carries the main current when the relay contact breaks, and so prevents excessive sparking.
