Abstract

483,576. Wireless transmitting systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and WASSELL, H. J. H. Oct. 21, 1936, No. 28660. [Class 40 (v)] In a suppressed or quiescent carrier system, a direct-current potential derived from the modulating signal is employed to put the transmitter into the " carrier-on " condition and operates a relay which connects a source of potential in such a manner that the transmitter is maintained in the " carrier-on " condition while signals are applied. Speech or other modulating signals supplied at IN are rectified at Re and cause a direct current to now through resistance R1 and the relay coil X; the rate of rise and decay being controlled by condenser Cl. The transmitter proper, which is modulated by circuits, not shown, is keyed on and off as regards carrier in any known manner, by the valve V1 whose grid is made negative by the voltage across Cl while the armature RI is on the " rest " contact a, and by the source of negative potential E1 through contact b, when the voltage on C1 has risen sufficiently to operate the relay. In a preferred modification, Fig. 2, (not shown) the relay coil X is in the anode circuit of a valve whose grid is made negative by the potential across R1.
