Abstract
520,605. Protective cut - out systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 15, 1938, No. 33184. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XL] The radio frequency source 1 of a transmitter is connected to the antenna 9 over an amplifier 3, transmission line 4, tuning coils 5, 6, and coupling and antenna condensers 7, 8. The cathode circuit of the valve 3 includes a gridbiasing resistance 11 and a resistance 12 which normally is short-circuited by contacts of a relay 13 having its coil connected between an earthconductor 10 and the inner conductor of line 4, preferably on the amplifier side, and in series with a battery 14 or L.F. alternating source. If, due to lightning or power-current overloading, a discharge to earth takes place from the part of the high-frequency system to which relay 13 is connected, the latter opens its contact to apply a blocking bias to the valve and prevent the transmission of power-current so long as the discharge lasts. A H.F. choke 15 and condenser 16 segregate the main and auxiliary currents, and a H.F. choke provides a conductive or L.F. connection shunting condenser 8.
