Abstract
531,556. Wireless transmitting systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., MEERS, R. A., PROBERT, G. O., and RATTUE, E. A. July 5, 1939, No. 19568. [Class 40 (v)] In a carrier wave telephone or telegraph transmission system having means for transmitting the carrier frequency only during the transmission of signals D.C. voltages derived from the signal currents are arranged to remove a blocking potential on a grid of a valve in the carrier path. Speech currents applied to transformer T<SP>1</SP> are rectified by a double diode V<SP>1</SP> to produce a voltage across resistance R<SP>1</SP>, which voltage applied to grid G<SP>21</SP> serves to block valve V<SP>2</SP>. This causes the anode potential to rise so as to remove a blocking bias from valve V<SP>3</SP> which thus serves to partially short circuit resistance R<SP>11</SP> and hence to reduce the positive bias of cathode of valve V4 due to voltage drop across R<SP>10</SP>, R<SP>11</SP>. This valve V4 in the carrier path becomes conductive and the carrier frequency is transmitted. A condenser C<SP>1</SP> gives a hangover time sufficient to cover intersyllabic pauses. For telegraphic working keying is effected across A, B, the positive potential for marking being applied at B.
