Abstract

398,240. Valve circuits ; wireless transmitting-apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Connaught House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of MatÚriel TÚlÚphonique Soc. Anon. ; 46, Quai de Boulogne, Boulogne-sur-Seine, France.) March 11, 1932, No. 7286. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1931. [Class 40 (v).] A valve oscillator or amplifier is rendered inoperative, for keying in radio transmission or for like purposes, by first charging a condenser and then connecting the condenser in series with another source of biassing voltages in the grid or other circuit of the valve. As shown in Fig. 1, an amplifier T with input impedance R<1>F<1> and output impedance RF has a potentiometer 1 for biassing its grid and a source S1 for supplying its plate circuit. When the amplifier is operative, a condenser C is connected by a switch across a portion of the source S1, and the grid circuit is completed at a contact 6. To paralyze the valve, the switch is thrown over to the left so that the charged condenser C is connected in the grid circuit to assist the bias source 1, so raising the bias to a prohibitive value ; the contact 6 being simultaneously opened. A multi-contact relay operated electromagnetically by the key may be used for performing the switching operation, Fig. 2 (not shown).
