539,625. Aircraft undercarriages. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and FORSTER, F. W. May 24, 1940, No. 9218. [Class 4] In the raising or lowering of a retractable part of an aircraft, such as an undercarriage, tail wheel a &c. by means of a radius rod f pivoted at e on a fixed portion of the aircraft and swung about its pivot by an hydraulic jack n or its equivalent the free end of the radius rod being pivotally connected to a carriage h slidable freely on the supporting member, such as a leg c, of the part to be raised or lowered, which member is also pivoted on a fixed portion of the aircraft, such as at d, so that in either position of the retractable part the longitudinal axis of the radius rod and of the supporting member intersect at substantially a right angle, the slidable carriage comprises a pair of side plates carrying trunnions g to which the bifurcated radius rod is pivotally connected and rollers k mounted between the side plates for engagement with the leg, preferably a single roller at one side and a pair of rollers at the other side. Any convenient form of leg may be used, the one shown being an oleo leg having its parts anchored by links i.
