Abstract

535,319. Aircraft landing carriages. O'NIONS, A. E. Nov. 4, 1939, No. 29375. [Class 4] A device for steering the landing wheels of retractable undercarriages which becomes operative without any additional manipulation by the pilot as the undercarriage is lowered comprises a link H movable by the usual rudder bar, the link being connected by a ball joint to a yoke A pivoted on trunnions, on the undercarriage leg, normally in the longitudinal plane of the aircraft. The leg is pivoted in a member E which can be turned about a transverse axis to raise the wheel out of use. During this movement the yoke A is turned into a vertical plane after which movements of the link H merely turn the yoke about it trunnions. The link H is guided by a bearing C so that the ball joint is maintained at a constant level to ensure the centring of the wheel as it is raised. The link H is connected as shown to the rudder-bar I.
