Abstract

527,994. Aircraft-landing wheels &c. MACLAREN, O. F. April 25, 1939, No. 12417. [Class 4] An aircraft landing wheel 8, skid &c. is mounted on a steering axis 7 carried in a frame 6 mounted on a castoring axis 3 spaced from the axis 7 which may be moved angularly for steering by cables 11, 12 passing through holes 14, 15 in an extension 13 of the spindle 3 or by other means such as a jack remotely controllable through fluid pipelines unaffected by movements about the castoring axis 3. The frame 6 may be locked to the spindle 3 in angularly adjustable position by a spring plunger 16 engaging holes 17 and the steering spindle 7 may be locked to the frame in similar manner. The wheel support 7 may be telescopic to provide resilient resistance on landing. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the frame connecting the two axes 3<1> and 7<1> is formed of parallel links 18, 19 displaceable against the resistance of a shock absorber 21 and the whole wheel &c. mounting is retractable into the fuselage about a pivot 22 by means of a jack 23.
