Abstract

539,482. Cylinders. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and MANSELL, H. C. March 1, 1940, No. 3914. [Class 7 (ii)] Light metal or light alloy is cast around a. cylindrical steel core 10 which is completely embedded except for the flanges at one or both ends. The core may be cut away forming apertures 13 subsequently filled by the lighter metal. Separate steel bars may be used instead of a continuous steel cylinder. Separate pre-formed cooling fans 18 are cast in the metal covering 17. The lower flange 12 may be screwed on to permit the positioning of the fins 18.
