[Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii)] [See also Group XXII] A cast-iron camshaft or crankshaft f particularly for an internal-combustion or other engine, has a solid or tubular reinforcing steel core g, introduced into the mould before casting, and serving to increase the density of the interior metal by accelerating its rate of cooling. The core may be used as an oilway, the shaft being drilled radially at the bearings j to communicate therewith. The parts of the core in the webs f may be of oval cross-section.
