Cylinders, construction of, heads for, materials for making, and cooling.-A sheetsteel or copper inner wall 3 of a cylinder head is secured, by welding, or soldering, to a shoulder 4 on the end of a steel, or cast iron cylinder barrel 1, and over the whole is cast an envelope 5 of aluminium, or an aluminium alloy, the wall 3 forming the inner member of the mould. Previous to the casting operation, valve seats 6 and fins 9 may be fixed to the wall 3, holes 10 being provided in the pins 9 to strengthen the connection of the fins to the casting.
