Abstract

224,186. Napier, M. S., and Wilkinson, G. S. June 18, 1924. Cylinders, construction of and cooling. - Each cylinder of a block has a head and barrel formed as a unit, is surrounded by a thin metal water jacket and is provided with lugs outside the jacket by which it is connected to adjacent cylinders of the block. To a cylinder A, which may be formed by machining a solid steel forging, is attached the water jacket, comprising a cover plate B and a sheet-metal casing C which may be in two pieces. Lugs A<7>, B<1> enable the cylinder to be attached to adjacent cylinders; coaxial tubes project from the water jackets which may be connected by flexible tubes.
