Abstract

509,320. Cooling cylinders. JUDSON, C. A., and PEARSON, J. D. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1231. [Class 7 (ii)] A sheet-metal water jacket 16, which is welded to a cylinder barrel 10, extends below the bosses 14 by which the cylinder is bolted to the crank-case. The jacket closes a water chamber 22 between two annular flanges 12, 13 from which the bosses extend, water circulation being completed by bores 21 behind, and passages 20 in front of, the bosses. At several places, the jacket is bent back, or recesses are formed in the flange 12, to allow the cooling water to pass from the chamber 22 to the main jacket, the water being admitted through a union welded to the jacket, or an extension thereof, adjacent the chamber 22.
