Cylinders, liners for, combustion heads of, arrangement of igniters in, and cooling.-Cylinder capacity is reduced by fitting a liner 2 having flanges 3, 4 which are first secured by screws 7 and then by the rusting action produced by temporarily placing a chemical such as a solution of sal ammoniac in the water space 10. Grooves 8 may be filled with at metallic cement or welding metal. The space 10 is connected with the water jacket by forming a hole 12 or by pipes 13. Alternatively one of the pipes 13 may be connected to the carburettor or the intake manifold, so that air is drawn through the space 10. A new head is provided having a smaller clearance space 14 and a sparking plug as shown. It has a larger water space, the outside dimensions being preserved.
