[Class 103 (i)] Braking mechanism, of the type in which a shoe 3 is mounted at one end for pivotal movement on a fixed pin 5 and also for automatic adjustment for wear by means of a member 6, on which the shoe is mounted so as to be capable of sliding.. in a direction inclined to the drum radius passing through the pin 5, is provided with means to adjust another part of the shoe which operate in response to the movement of the pivoted end of the shoe, the means shown in the drawing consisting of the inclined surface 19 on the shoe co-operating with a stop 20. A retractile spring 23 for the shoe is provided in the position shown or, alternatively, a retractile spring near the shoe pivot may be provided and also a retractile spring acting on the upper end of the shoe.
