Abstract
704,617. Internal shoe drum brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. April 2, 1952 [March 21, 1951], No. 6794/51. Class 103(1) An automatic wear adjustment device for the shoes of an internal shoe drum brake comprises a block 34 which is mounted on a shoe web so as to slide radially and carries at its outer end a pad 30 adapted to engage the inner surface of a brake drum. The block 34 is secured to the shoe web by a push member 28 formed of sheet metal and having its ends bent over as shown in Fig. 2. The member 28 has an arm 32 which co-operates with a stop 33 fixed to the back plate 10. As the linings. wear the pad 30 is pushed inwardly by the drum so that the push member 28 also moves inwardly against the resistance of spring 39. The edge 31 is thus moved away from the cam 44 but this is rotated by the coil spring 49 so as to take up any clearance and. prevent return movement of the push member relative to the shoe. The release movement as determined by the engagement of arm 32 with stop 33 is thus kept constant.
