[Class 44] A sliding bolt a capable of rocking movement in the guide aperture e as it slides therethrough in moving from retracted to shot position, or vice versa, is biassed towards the front attachment plate d by a wire spring having a loop l embracing the bolt. As shown, the spring has coils mounted on a pin m, the limb l bearing on the bolt and the other limb bearing on plate d being inclined at an obtuse angle, but a modification is described in which the limbs are arrayed at an acute angle. The bolt is operated by a lever f, pivoted at g in a recess h so as normally to lie flush with the face of plate d. The spring retains the bolt in its extreme positions, the lever f bearing, in the retracted position, against the inclined face of the part b of the bolt, and in the shot position against a curved plate i. Recess h has enlargements j, k at its ends to give ready access to the end of lever f.
