[Classes 92 (ii) and 119.] Automatic guns of the gas-operated type have a buffer spring D arranged around the rear end of a recoil spring C which is in line with and bears against the rod A of the gas piston. A sliding member E2 bearing against the buffer spring is struck by the rear end of the rod A to compress the buffer spring and absorb excess recoil energy in the moving parts. Specification 354,330 is referred to.
