Abstract

703,860. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Feb. 25, 1952 [April 7, 1951], No. 8114/51. Class 103(1) A spot type disc brake having hand operable means comprising a cable actuated lever 17, pivoted at 18, and arranged to press against a rod 15 that urges a friction pad 4 against the disc 1, is provided with automatic wear adjustment means between the lever 17 and the rod 15 which acts to keep the pad 4 in contact with the disc. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which the invention is applied to a disc brake of the type described in Specification 688,382, wherein pads on each side of the disc may be simultaneously urged into engagement therewith by fluid pressure, the hand operable mechanism is applied to the intermediate of three circumferentially spaced cylinders, the wear adjustment means comprising a wedge member 19 which is under constant inward force by a coiled helical spring member fitting into a groove in the outer edge of the member. In an alternative construction shown in Fig. 4, the adjustment means comprises a snail cam 29 adapted to be turned by a clock type spring 30. In a further construction, shown in Fig. 5, a face cam 31 is rotatably fitted to a peg 32 on the end of the lever and also urged rotatably by a clock type spring 33.
