Abstract
533,677. Spring hinges. NICHOLLS, J. E. Nov. 13, 1939, No. 29978. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1938. [Class 65 (ii)] A spring hinge for a closet seat cover &c. 10, 12, comprises a pin 6 with a journal part 7 in a bearing carried by the seat 10, and a non- circular part 8 fitting a socket in the cover 10. The pin carries a crankpin 16 on which bears a spring 17 enclosed in a telescopic tube 18, 19 which rocks at its end on the surface 21 of a housing 22 enclosing the tube. When two hinges are used, the journal of the second one bears in the cover 12 and the part 8 in the seat 10. As the cover is raised, the force of the spring diminishes as the pin 16 approaches dead centre position, and in its raised position it is balanced by the spring. The housing is adjustably mounted on the pan 27 by a bolt 28 with an eccentric pin 30 adapted to fit any one of a number of sockets 26 in the housing.
